How we Thrive

I am committed to working diligently to ensure that Kanata thrives as a place to live, raise a family, start a business, and work.

It is my commitment to our Kanata North community that our tax dollars are spent in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. I am an economist by study, and I appreciate the importance of ensuring value for every penny we spend in our city. I see this as my core responsibility and obligation to the residents of Kanata North.

Kanata North is incredibly fortunate to be home to Canada’s largest tech park with over 500 companies, which provide over 21,000 jobs. This economic engine contributes over $7.8 billion to Canada’s GDP annually and is rich in talent and expertise that are desired and required by new and successful companies. As I did when I was the inaugural Executive Director for the Kanata North Business Association, I will continue to promote and heighten the profile of Kanata North as a centre of technology innovation and business because this means jobs in our community. The ability to create and attract more jobs is a privilege and I believe our city should support this economic engine in our community  in a more aggressive manner. I will foster programs that support and encourage new technology companies. I will work for stronger support of Kanata’s business community within the programs of the municipal, the province and federal government.

Kanata should be a proving ground for new technology and innovations that will improve the quality of our home and work lives. I am committed to the adoption of technologies that make Ottawa a smart city and better serve our residents.

We also need programs that will educate our elementary and high school students, hire our interns and graduates, and provide opportunities for experienced workers. I believe we should identify locations throughout Kanata North in which individuals can gather in a shared work space for work and meetings.  As well as a place for learning, training and higher education. I will work towards establishing programs for our youth and co-working opportunities in Kanata North.

I have deep respect for our senior citizens and a strong desire to support our youth and I will work on their behalf to enhance programs and activities that will enrich their lives in Kanata. I will formalize a Seniors Council through the great work of the Kanata Seniors Centre and create a Youth Council so that our next generation has the opportunity to participate and engage in planning for the future.

I will build stronger ties with community associations so that they have the opportunity to engage and provide meaningful input into the planning and development process for our community.

I also plan to work collaboratively with my fellow Councillors in the west end of Ottawa on major infrastructure projects so that we may have a unified presence at City Council.

I am confident I can lead our community forward. Under my leadership, Kanata North will continue to prosper, grow and thrive, thanks to thoughtful partnerships, sound economic policies, and proper planning.
