Fall is a beautiful season and a favourite of mine; however, with shorter days, colder weather, and the return of cold and flu season, it can also be a tough one for many.

Prepping your home for the winter months is important, as is self care and checking in regularly with family, friends, and neighbours.

Here's my update for our community from the month of September.

September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.

Take the time to learn and reflect. We all have a role to play on the journey toward reconciliation.

On September 18th, the Prime Minister informed the House of Commons and all Canadians about credible allegations of a potential link between agents of the Government of India and the killing of a Canadian Citizen, Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

I understand this is deeply upsetting for many in our community, particularly South Asians and families who come from India, regardless of religion. This is a time to let the legal process continue as it must.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau apologizes on behalf of Canada's Parliament after a man who fought in Adolf Hitler's Nazi forces was included in an event last week honouring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

And just like that, the summer school holidays are coming to an end. How does time always seem to speed up during July and August? I hope you all had a wonderful summer and I’d like to wish all educators and kids a successful return to school.

July has been a busy month for Kanata—Carleton!

As we head into August—the final month of summer recess before the House of Commons resumes—I'm speaking directly with residents to hear your feedback, stopping in at local businesses, working with my new provincial counterpart (more on that below!), and getting up to speed on the functions of my new role as Minister.

From June 24 to 25, Jenna Sudds, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth, met with G7 Gender Equality Ministers over a two-day session to discuss lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as gender equality policies to support women’s economic empowerment.

The sessions were preceded by a dialogue with the Gender Equality Advisory Council (GEAC) and Chairs of the Women 7 (W7), to ensure that the perspectives of international experts and civil society organizations were included.

Set in the heart of Area X.O, the DARTT Zone is a high-tech obstacle course, which features specialized infrastructure that puts aerial and ground robots through rigorous tests and challenges in mixed terrain and diverse weather to assess and advance their performance, safety, and market readiness.

To the students of AY Jackson, Earl of March, Holy Trinity, Maurice-Lapointe and West Carleton, congratulations.

I hope they look back on their high school years as wonderful memories with amazing teachers and fabulous friendships that will last a lifetime.

The warmer weather is finally here! If you have not had the chance yet to visit a local farmers’ market yet, I highly recommend it!

Both the Carp Farmers’ Market and the Kanata Farmers’ Market are held weekly on Saturdays throughout the summer months. Hope to see you there!

The new one-time Grocery Rebate will deliver targeted inflation relief for 11 million low- and modest-income Canadians and families who need it most. The goal of the Grocery Rebate is to help offset higher prices when shopping for food, without worsening inflation.

I’d like to start today’s update with a shoutout to my team who is incredibly busy behind the scenes, assisting Kanata—Carleton constituents with various federal issues, such as passport renewal applications, immigration inquiries, work permits, tax filing services, and more.

Assisting constituents in this way is some of the most personal and fulfilling work of being a Member of Parliament, but it wouldn’t be possible without my team and their compassion.

The flood levels are currently below what residents experienced in the spring of 2017 and 2019. However, residents whose properties and neighbourhoods have experienced flooding in the past 20 years should expect flooding this week. This includes Constance and Buckham’s Bay, along Barlow Crescent to Pinhey’s Point.
